Third time charm

Raeleen Whitt’s cancer saga began eight years ago, in January 2007. As a sixteen-year-old, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She underwent nearly three years of chemotherapy (much of the time under hospitalization) and missed her junior and senior years of high school; nevertheless, she completed her secondary education through the Corona/Norco school district’s home/hospital program.   Raeleen with her brother, Derek.

Attendees of the 55th School of Dentistry Alumni Student Convention at the Loma Linda University Centennial Complex enjoyed the opportunity, Thursday, February 5, of witnessing the annual research project presentations initiated months earlier by third year dental students and senior dental hygiene students under the guidance of faculty mentors.

Susan Roche honored with AHS Fellowship

Susan Roche, DDS’93, MS, MA, associate professor, Department of Oral Diagnosis, Radiology and Pathology, was elected as a Fellow of the American Headache Society (AHS) at the Society’s annual symposium, November 2014, in Scottsdale, Arizona.   Dr. Susan Roche Founded in 1959, AHS is a professional society of health care providers dedicated to the study and treatment of headache and face pain.

Clinic With A Heart celebrates its silver anniversary

It was a dark and rainy morning, but two hundred eight adults and 14 children received free dental care on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry’s (LLUSD) student clinics, during the School’s annual Clinic With A Heart.   Patients wait under tented shelters before dawn. Coachella Valley residents attend School's Palm Desert open house

The LLU School of Dentistry held an early evening December 3 open house for prospective students to its Associate of Science degree program in Dental Hygiene at the School’s Dental Hygiene Program and Clinic in Palm Desert, California.   The LLUSD Dental Hygiene AS program in Palm Desert is full of Christmas cheer. The open house featured catered Mexican food, a variety of giveaways, and personalized admissions consultations provided by Esther Valenzuela, MBA, MA, director, Admissions and Marlise Perry, assistant director of Admissions and Recruiting.    

LLUSD alumnus elected to California Assembly

LLU School of Dentistry alumnus Jim Wood, DDS’86, was elected in November 2014 to represent California’s 2nd Assembly District, which comprises all of Del Norte, Trinity, Humboldt and Mendocino counties, plus northern and coastal Sonoma County, including the northern half of Santa Rosa.   Dr. Jim Wood with his family including canine members Dr. Wood has lived in Northern California since 1987 when he opened his family dental practice, one of four in Cloverdale.
