Steven Powell, DDS'87, is a newly appointed assistant professor in the School of Dentistry’s new Division of General Dentistry. For the past 28 years Dr. Powell has operated a dental practice devoted to health that includes comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. The practice is located in Okemos, Michigan, bordering the East Lansing campus of Michigan State University. Early in 2013, Ronald Dailey, PhD, then the School’s executive associate dean, became aware of that Dr. Powell and his wife, Juliana, were vacationing in Palm Desert. Dr.

LLUSD student teams with Smile Train and Ironman Arizona to provide cleft lip/palate surgeries to underprivileged children

Brandon Soelberg is a fourth year LLU School of Dentistry student who treats his doctor of dental surgery training as preparation for an oral and facial surgery residency. He is simultaneously training for the November 15, 2015, Arizona IRONMAN competition in Tempe—2.4-mile open water swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run.   Brandon Soelberg Since 2009, Brandon has run several full marathons, and a number of half marathons and five-mile races in Utah and California.

Alumnus earns prestigious fellow accreditation

LLU School of Dentistry alumnus Nicholas C. Davis, DDS’73, recently earned the Accredited Fellow certification from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and was recognized for the achievement on May 9 at the AACD 2015 Annual Scientific Session in San Francisco. It will be a relief to those holding their breath since April 20 that a new name for the School of Dentistry’s alumni journal finally has been chosen. “[D]esigned to inform alumni, faculty, students, and other interested individuals regarding current School programs, events, and activities and accomplishments of faculty, students and alumni,” the alumni journal was launched in very early 1988 as Dentistry, under the founding editorship of Leif K.

LLUSD graduate receives Charles E. Weniger Society Scholarship Award

2015 LLU School of Dentistry doctor of dental surgery graduate Laura Sherwin is one of three annual recipients of the Charles E.
