Commencement 2019: LLUSD’s 63rd conferring of degrees

Jaime Lozada recognized with LLUSD School Distinguished Research Award

Jaime Lozada, DDS, program director, Advanced Dental Education Program in Implant Dentistry, was presented during LLUSD commencement 2019 with the School Distinguished Research Award by Dean Robert Handysides who described his contribution to dental education and particularly to research in implant dentistry. Zina Johnston recognized with Teacher of the Year Award

Zina Johnston, DDS’00, assistant professor, Division of General Dentistry, was presented at the 2019 LLUSD commencement with the School of Dentistry Teacher of the Year Award by Mark Estey, DDS’98, assistant dean, Office of Academic Affairs who explained her selection. Debbie Catino recognized with School Distinguished Service Award

Debbie R. Catino, clinical manager, Department of Endodontics, was presented at LLUSD commencement 2019 with the School Distinguished Service Award by Dean Robert Handysides, DDS’93, who described her exemplary service. LLUSD alumnus contributes over 250,000 surgical specimens to AAOMP

Gordon M. Rick, DDS’68, MS’72, has donated to the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP) more than 250,000 surgical specimens from the oral, head, and neck region.  They represent the consecutive accessions from 1956 through 2008 of what eventually became Scripps Oral Pathology Service (SOPS). The collection of paraffin-embedded tissue blocks and glass microslides occupies about 425 cubic feet and weighs nearly 12,000 pounds. Mark Carpenter honored with LLUH Community Engagement Award

Mark Carpenter, DDS’80, MPH, assistant professor, Dental Educational Services, was presented with the LLUH Community Engagement Award by President Richard Hart, MD, DrPH, at the 2019 annual Loma Linda University Health Homecoming. NASDAD introduces Changing Lives: The Story of Dental Mission Service at Loma Linda University

NASDAD was established in 1943 by a few like-minded Seventh-day Adventist dentists for the express purpose of encouraging the General Conference of SDA to found a school of dentistry on the Loma Linda University campus.
