Synopsis
Update your knowledge of the most important issues in utilization of opioids in dental practice. The focus of this session is on a) Highlights of the 2022 CDC guidelines on opioid use in acute pain management b) Pharmacology, ADRs, and clinical justification of when to utilize opioids to control pain during and post-dental procedures, and c) Regulations on opioid prescribing.
Objectives
- Review local anesthetics, anxiolytics, and non-opioid analgesics.
- Review opioid agents.
- Drug prescribing & recordation regulations
- Discuss strategies of how to approach pain management.
- Discuss current healthcare concerns on overutilization and underutilization of opioids, opioid use disorder, diversion, and strategies to minimize these issues.
- Review of the regulations of opioid prescribing in dental practice.
