Loma Linda University School of Dentistry recognized Award recipients during the Hooding Ceremony and Awards Reception on Friday, May 23, 2025.  Award recipients were recognized for high achievement in academics, service, leadership, and research.


GENERAL AWARDS


Dentistry Awards

Academy of General Dentistry - Awarded to 2 seniors who are AGD members who have indicated a desire to practice general dentistry; maintain an academic scholastic balance between clinical and didactic courses of study; GPA 3.0 or greater; demonstrated outstanding attributes conducive to exceptional doctor-patient relationships.

Leadership Awards

Academy of Dentistry International Student Servant Leadership Award (ADI) - Honors a senior student for “meritorious servant leadership and volunteerism”.  In recognition of a lifestyle of community, national and international giving of self which encourages all students and dental team members to such lofty lifetime goals.

American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA) Horace Wells Award - Senior dental student enrolled in your dental school who has demonstrated proficiency in the field of dental anesthesiology.

American Student Dental Association (ASDA) -This award of excellence is given to a senior who is in good academic standing, a member of ASDA and a participant or leader in extracurricular school activities or local community service.

California Dental Association Senior Award - Chosen by CDA to be given to the graduating senior CDA representative for commendable scholarship, clinical proficiency and leadership and for performance giving promise of outstanding professional achievement.

International College of Dentists Student Leadership - Presented to a senior student in upper 1/3 of class who has shown leadership in some of the following activities: SD student government; class; ASDA; Student Natnl. Dent. Assoc.; Research activities; SD committees/activities; potential to continue leadership roles after graduation.

Dr. Jeanne Craig Sinkford Student Leadership Award - This ADEA-sponsored award will be given annually by each U.S. and Canadian dental school to a student in good academic standing in their final year of dental education. The award will be presented at the dental school’s Student Award Ceremony. The criteria are as follows:

1.   Participation in leadership activities.
2.   Demonstration of effective leadership.
3.   Advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion.
4.   Champion for access to oral health care for underserved and disadvantaged populations.
5.   Community service-oriented.
6.   Proclivity to enter dental education or organized dentistry.

Prince Award - Dr. M. Webster Prince, the first dean of the School of Dentistry, in 1957 established an award of $100 (now $1,500) to be presented annually to a senior in recognition of qualities of scholarship, leadership and stewardship.

Boyko Award for Christ-like Service - Cumulative GPA 2.3 minimum; Shows evidence of genuine motivation to serve those underserved; Shows evidence of a personal relationship and commitment to Christ and His teachings; Has participated in an extraordinary amount of service dentistry locally and abroad.

Brian D. Stone Memorial Award - Presented to an outstanding senior dental student who has demonstrated exceptional volunteer service. Does not necessarily include care for patients with special needs but could recognize for this.

Michelle Abad

International College of Dentists Student Humanitarian - Presented to a senior student who has demonstrated significant leadership and exemplary character traits in humanitarian service or projects: exhibits an altruistic attitude to assist the underserved; motivates others to serve; humility and generosity with time and talents; significant history of participation; has a leadership role in coordinating services; potential to continue to be a leader in humanitarian outreach programs.

USPHS – U.S. Public Health Service Dental Award of Excellence - Students in the final year of dental school who are committed to public health dentistry and the USPHS core values of leadership, service, integrity, and excellence. 

Award Criteria:
-    The student should embrace USPHS core values and be in good academic standing.
-    The student should have some demonstrated interest in community or dental public health through extracurricular activities, projects, internships, etc.
-    The student should have some interest in serving in a public health setting serving underserved populations following graduation, not necessarily with the U.S. Public Health Service.

Wil Alexander Award - Dr. Wil Alexander, Professor of Family Medicine for the School of Medicine, has established a fund for awards to seniors who, in the opinion of their classmates, have demonstrated an ongoing commitment and involvement in Whole Person Care in their personal and professional lives during their years at LLU.

Division of General Dentistry Awards

American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED) - One Senior student with the highest level of clinical proficiency and greatest interest in esthetic dentistry.

(AAOM) American Academy of Oral Medicine - Awarded to a graduating senior who is outstanding in the field of oral medicine.

Academy of Operative Dentistry - To recognize excellence in operative dentistry at the pre-doctoral level. The recipient should exemplify outstanding achievement in operative dentistry.

American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) - Presented to an outstanding undergraduate student who has shown high academic and clinical proficiency in prosthodontics and if at all possible, has indicated an interest in pursuing graduate training in prosthodontics.

(APS) The American Prosthodontic Society APS Student of Merit Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated the highest level of clinical proficiency and greatest interest in prosthodontic dentistry. One award per University.

American Academy of Implant Dentistry - For a graduating senior who demonstrates the most interest academically and clinically in implant dentistry.

Endodontics Awards

American Association of Endodontists Student Achievement Award in Endodontics - The award is presented annually to one undergraduate dental student at each institution who has demonstrated a skill level in endodontics that is above average.

• The student must show a broad interest in endodontics and demonstrate more involvement than is required of the average graduate in his/her class
• The student must show above average grades in clinical treatment of endodontic problems
• The student should have better than average grades in the didactic endodontic courses
• The chair of the endodontic department or section should take part in selecting the student for the award
