As Esther Forde, RN, MA, MBA, bids farewell to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, we celebrate the journey of a dedicated leader whose contributions have left a lasting impact on Admissions and Student Affairs.

Esther began her career in healthcare after graduating from the BSN program at LLU School of Nursing in 1980. She initially worked in the operating room, drawn to the complexity and challenge of the work. However, the intensity of the role led her to reflect deeply on her goals for the future. This introspection inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in counseling and guidance, which she completed while working as a Residence Hall Dean at La Sierra University.

In 1990, a mentor encouraged her to consider the Director of Admissions & Student Affairs role at the School of Nursing at LLU. The opportunity reignited her love of nursing, and she embraced the position wholeheartedly, serving from 1990 to 1994. During this time, she continued working on a per diem basis in the operating room at LLU Health, East Campus Hospital, staying connected to her clinical roots. Her dedication and leadership eventually led to her promotion as Nurse Manager of Perioperative Services at East Campus in 1996 and in 2002 the GI Lab at LLUMC.

In 2005 Bill Hooker Ph.D., then associate dean of Student Affairs at the School of Dentistry, reached out to Esther. She made an impression due to her strong leadership skills and background in admissions.  Although Esther initially declined the offer to succeed Sylvia Davis as director of admissions due to personal commitments, a chance meeting with Dr. Dailey a year later reopened the conversation. After spending time in prayer and reflection, Esther realized how much joy she found in mentoring students and guiding them toward their future paths.

She accepted the role, guided by a strong sense that this was her true calling. Her faith and values aligned perfectly with the mission of the School of Dentistry. Throughout her tenure, Esther found deep fulfillment in empowering students to work toward their goals and dreams with confidence and clarity.

One of her proudest accomplishments was when she was able to enhance the admissions process—ensuring prospective students receive exceptional support during interviews and implementing an expanded network of committee members involved in candidate evaluations.

As she enters retirement, Esther looks forward to traveling and spending quality time with her husband, Dr. Ronald Forde, and their loved ones. She leaves behind a powerful message: embrace change, collaborate openly, and remember that great ideas can come from anyone. She encourages students to step beyond the digital world, build meaningful relationships, and develop interpersonal skills through genuine engagement with faculty and peers.

We honor Esther’s remarkable career and the countless lives she has touched. Her legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication will continue to inspire for years to come. We wish her a joyful and well-deserved retirement.
