Healing Hands is a Loma Linda University Health program that enables patients and their families to express gratitude to their healthcare team in a meaningful way. For the School of Dentistry, dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, and other workers within the dental clinic system are able to be recognized for providing exceptional care. Through written notes, donations, and special recognitions, the program honors the dedication and compassion that staff demonstrate every day. These acknowledgements serve as powerful reminders that School of Dentistry providers embody the university’s mission: “To Make Man Whole.”
This last December, longtime faculty member Steven Powell, DDS’87, was recognized with a Healing Hands award during the quarterly Faculty AdvanceSeminar. Dr. Powell, who has served at the School of Dentistry for many years, is well known for his commitment to both patient care and dental education. During the presentation, a heartfelt message from a grateful patient was shared: “In honor of Dr. Powell, whose Godly walk, compassionate care, and dedication to whole person healing inspired all. His spirit, communication, and patient connection reflect the best of faith and health care.”
Dr. Powell’s dedication, warmth, and passion for both his patients and students leave a lasting impact on everyone he encounters. The School of Dentistry is deeply grateful to Dr. Powell for being a valued faculty member and to the patient who shared their meaningful appreciation. Recognitions like this remind the entire LLU community of the profound difference one caring individual can make.
