LLUSD trio provides CEs for SRRSH

Since the 2009 establishment of a professional education program in dental assisting at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, China, LLU School of Dentistry clinic faculty members have provided continuing education (CE) courses to the hospital’s dental staff, dental assisting students, and dentists from the surrounding community.

LLU dental hygiene students run Relay for Life

Fourteen students from the School of Dentistry’s Associate of Science dental hygiene classes of 2015 and 2016 volunteered their time, October 25, 2014, to walk the track at Palm Desert High School in the American Cancer Society’s 24-hour Relay For Life.

Jason Joo receives ADI's Terry Tanaka Humanitarian Award

LLU dental student Jason Joo (class of 2015) was honored with the Academy of Dentistry International’s Terry Tanaka Student Humanitarian Award at ADI’s annual Awards banquet, October 8, 2014, in San Antonio. The award is given to the North American senior dental student who best exemplifies the humanitarian values and service to others for which ADI is known.

Charles Goodacre honored by American College of Prosthodontics

Charles J. Goodacre, DDS’71, MSD, professor, Department of Restorative Dentistry, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, received the Dan Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) at its Annual Awards & President’s Dinner during the ACP’s 44th Annual Session, November 5-8, 2014, in New Orleans.

William Hooker honored by CDA

William M. Hooker, PhD, former LLU School of Dentistry associate dean for Student Affairs (1994-2008), received the Gale Kloeffler Award for his outstanding service to the California Dental Associations’ Well-Being Program during the CDA’s annual meetings in San Francisco, September 4-6, 2014.

Three LLUSD faculty honored at 2014 ACD annual meeting in San Antonio

Three School of Dentistry faculty members were honored by induction into the American College of Dentistry (ACD) October 9 at the ACD annual meeting held in tandem with the American Dental Association’s 2014 annual session in San Antonio, Texas. The new LLUSD ACD Fellows are Kenneth Abramovitch, DDS, MS, professor, Department of Oral Diagnosis, Radiology and Pathology; Neal Johnson, PhD, DDS, associate professor, Dental Education Services; and Ahmed Khocht, DDS, BChD, professor, Department of Periodontics.

Dean Dailey meets with Korean dental students/alumni

Dean Ronald Dailey, PhD, and his wife, Karen Winston-Dailey, MD’88, joined Korean School of Dentistry alumni and students Tuesday, September 2, 2014, for a meal at the home of Sung Joo Park, MD’95, and Nancy Park, DDS’00. Thirty students were treated to a wonderful Korean meal along with Dean Dailey’s advice about how to succeed in dental school.

Saying farewell to William Loveless

The School of Dentistry family mourns with our co-worker and friend, Dr. Edna Maye Loveless, PhD, the passing of her husband, Pastor and Professor William A. Loveless, EdD.

He was called “to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable,” Dr. Loveless concluded early in his career as a Seventh-day Adventist minister, educator and marriage and family therapist.
