2010 LLUSD alumnus of the year

Leslie Nazaroff, DrPH, DH ‘90, was selected as this year’s Dental Hygiene Alumnus of the Year. Leslie has played an important part in both dental hygiene and dental student education for nearly 20 years.
 

School of Dentistry executive associate dean wins city council seat

According to Ron Dailey, PhD, executive associate dean, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, it was his concerns about increasing crime in Loma Linda and growing polarization on the City Council over issues that included residential development, red-light cameras, increased traffic congestion, and safety projects (including a redesign for Stewart Street) that prompted his recent successful run for Loma Linda City Council.

Dental Hygiene seniors participate in second RAM/LA

For the second consecutive year Loma Linda University School of Dentistry senior dental hygiene students participated in Remote Area Medical’s Los Angeles (RAM/LA) week (April 27-May 3) during which many Southern California healthcare professionals volunteered their time and expertise at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to provide medical services to 6,619 area residents who could not afford healthcare.

Recognition for dental students awards

Each May the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry publicly recognizes awardees of its Honors Programs, Advanced Clinical Rotation Programs, and Senior Advanced Clinical Standing Programs. Awardees for the 2009-2010 academic year are listed below.

LLUSD student researchers win big at CDA

Nine LLUSD dental and three dental hygiene student research teams entered their projects in the California Dental Association research competition at the Anaheim Convention Center May 13-16 and won nine of the sixteen available awards.

The Loma Linda students’ awards—three first, three second and one third (and two honorable mentions)—were worth $6,100 of the total $9,200 awarded in scholarships and cash.

Academic Excellence Gold and Silver winners

The following list of fourth-year dental students achieved Academic Excellence Awards for their scores on the National Board Part II examination. The award is based on a score that is one standard deviation above the national mean. The Gold Award is reserved for those who exceeded the national mean on both National Board Part I and Part II.

LLUSD researchers well represented at IADR/AADR 2010

Seventeen research posters from a cross section of LLUSD students, faculty, and staff were featured at the most recent joint annual proceedings of the International Association for Dental Research and the American Association for Dental Research held in Washington, DC, March 3-6, 2010.

Listed below are the LLUSD research posters that were displayed at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, as well as pictures of some of the LLUSD research cohort that attended the convention.

Student Research Presentations 2010 winners

LLUSD dental students from the class of 2011, and dental hygiene students from the class of 2010, made their Student Research Presentations as computerized slide shows at Loma Linda University’s Centennial Complex on March 18.
