Tord Lundgren appointed chair, Department of Periodontics

Tord Lundgren, DDS, PhD was appointed chair, LLUSD Department of Periodontics, October 2016.

Having taught in LLUSD’s Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics from 1999 to 2006, Dr. Lundgren returned to the School in May 2015 as a professor in the Department of Periodontics and five months later was assigned as the department’s interim chair.

Christina Do inducted to ADI fellowship

Christina T. Do, DDS’04, was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of Dentistry International on October 19 during its annual convocation and awards ceremony in Denver, Colorado. ADI president Ramon Baez, DDS, made the presentation.

Michael Siy honored with Terry Tanaka Award

Michael Siy, D4, was honored with the Terry Tanaka Award on October 19 during the Academy of Dentistry International annual convocation and awards banquet in Denver, Colorado. Terry Tanaka, DDS, presented Michael with the award.

Dean Dailey receives honorary fellowship

Ronald J. Dailey, PhD, dean, Loma Linda School of Dentistry, was presented with Honorary Fellowship in the Academy of Dentistry International on October 19 during its annual convocation and awards ceremony in Denver, Colorado.

Unlikely diagnosis

When dentists hear the word endocarditis, they have an automatic response: prophylactic antibiotics before dental treatment, 2g Amoxicillin or 500mg Clindamycin. This is because infective endocarditis (IE) is what I consider one of the few golden rule no-no’s of dentistry.

Wayne K. Tanaka retires

Wayne K. Tanaka, DDS, associate professor, Department of OMFS, concluded a 23-year teaching relationship with LLUSD on July 31, 2016. As a Diplomate, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Tanaka was the School’s predoctoral program director for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from 1998 to 2014.

LLUSD student researchers exhibit investigatory ethos

The student research program at LLUSD encourages active participation in the AADR National Student Research Group (NSRG). The School’s NSRG councilor, Marianne Demirdji (D4), and SRG representative, Trisha Aprecio (D2), participated in the 2016 NSRG breakfast on March 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The discussion focused on ways the NSRG can help local school SRGs encourage research activity and strengthen their relationships with national organizations.

LLUSD faculty members receive ADEA appointments

A contingent of twenty-nine faculty members and students from the LLU School of Dentistry attended the 2016 ADEA annual meeting in Denver March 12-15.

Several LLU School of Dentistry educators have significant roles with the American Dental Education Association.
