Portrait of Dr. Thomas McDonald
Thomas R McDonald, DMD

Comprehensive Restorative Dentistry
Athens, Georgia

Most modern dentists have developed vast knowledge in esthetics, occlusion, and restorative dentistry. However, when presented with a complex case many clinicians have difficulty deciding where to start, what materials to use, and the proper sequence for treatment. With modern ceramic materials and implants, the chance for catastrophic failure due to interference with function is greatly increased.  Dr. McDonald will discuss proper positioning of the teeth utilizing functional-esthetic guidelines and outline a system for diagnosis and treatment sequencing of complex restorative cases through segmental restoration with modern materials. This approach is more technically achievable for the clinician and laboratory technician and certainly more feasible for the patient.

  • Appreciate the clinical steps for accurate occlusal records and development of essential diagnostic information.
  • Understand how functional principles affect the size, shape, and position of our restorations.
  • Learn current strategies for treatment staging and the importance of segmental restoration for clinical predictability and patient acceptance
