Steven G. Morrow, SD '60, MS '87
2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award
Dr. Steven G. Morrow was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year during the 53rd Alumni-Student Convention on February 7, 2013.
Dr. Morrow received his DDS degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 1960 and his MS in Microbiology in 1987. He became faculty at the School of Dentistry in 1962 and now serves as Director, Patient Care Services & Clinical Quality Assurance for the School of Dentistry.
In 2010, Dr. Morrow was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Dental Board that represents all the dental schools in California. Dr. Charles Goodacre commented, "Dr. Morrow has been instrumental in redefining the initial dental licensing requirements that in the near future will make the process much more realistic for the students." Dr. Morrow's efforts have helped effect changes in California dental education and licensing protocols so in the future dental students will be licensed when they graduate without having to take a state board exam.
After receiving the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award, Dr. Morrow responded by saying, "I've always had a desire to make a difference in the world...and...when the opportunity was afforded me to join the faculty I did so because I thought it was another door that had opened for me to make a difference in students' lives, to make a difference in patients' lives. A number of you have been students in one or more of my classes over my 30-plus years. Some of your children have been students in one or more of my classes in the last 30-plus years. It is my hope and my goal that I have made a difference in your lives and in the lives of your patients. I know you all have made a difference in mine.
